The View From The Shard

The View from The Shard offers visitors to London the sights from a 95-storey skyscraper in Southwark, that forms part of the London Bridge Quarter development.

Standing 1,016 ft high, the Shard is the tallest building in the United Kingdom, the fourth-tallest building in Europe and the 111th-tallest building in the world. It is also the second-tallest free-standing structure in the United Kingdom, after the concrete tower at the Emley Moor transmitting station.

London’s highest and best view is situated at The View from The Shard, on floors 68, 69 and 72. At almost twice the height of any other viewing platform in the capital, it offers visitors unparalleled 360-degree views for up to 40 miles.

Yesterday, I visited The Shard to take in the views of this wonderful city. From this powerful perspective, it enabled me to take in some of the landmarks that have offered me some fantastic opportunities over the years.

Just over two years ago, on one wintry January evening, I was lucky enough to attend the launch party of Above & Beyond’s album, We Are All We Need. Seeing bird’s-eye views of London at night from these dizzy heights was spectacular and enchanting. The dance trio’s YouTube upload below gives you a shimmering video document of the celebrations. And if you look closely enough, you might spot me in the footage!

Yesterday, I revisited The Shard for the first time since Above & Beyond’s party, and it was my first time experiencing the views of London during the daytime. I couldn’t have picked a better day. With temperatures soaring amongst the mid twenties, visibility was clear and bright.

In one of my views, I took in the sights of Tower Bridge, several minutes’ walk from my home, and a short distance from The Scoop, the sunken 800-seater amphitheatre (located underneath City Hall), and close to the Bridge Theatre, which opens later this year.
